For months, we’ve been calling out Scott Lloyd’s abuse of power as head of the Trump administration’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Last week reached a tipping point when — thanks in part to you — we joined reproductive justice and immigrant justice advocates in delivering more than 270,000 signed petitions calling for Lloyd’s firing.
The ORR, which is housed in the Health and Human Services Department (HHS), is charged with helping undocumented immigrant youth who enter the U.S. alone. But since Lloyd took leadership last year, he has reshaped the office around his personal crusade to block young immigrant women from accessing safe, legal abortion, including pushing for so-called “abortion reversal,” a dangerous “procedure” that’s not based in science or fact. Lloyd even receives a weekly spreadsheet containing information on every pregnant woman in the ORR’s custody.

Meanwhile, HHS Secretary Alex Azar — Scott Lloyd’s boss — continues to refuse to do anything about Lloyd’s creepy, dangerous, and unconstitutional behavior. Azar claimed that the ORR was operating “right and correctly” under Lloyd, then later doubled down on his complicity, stating, “this is not about Mr. Lloyd.”
Uh, spoiler alert: It is.
That’s why Planned Parenthood supporters joined with our allies, including the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health and All* Above All, to bring the fight to Scott Lloyd and Alex Azar outside the HHS headquarters last week. Together, we dropped off more than a quarter of a million signatures demanding that Secretary Azar fire Lloyd immediately.
Tell Alex Azar: #FireScottLloyd! We’ve got the Tweet written for you.Earlier that morning, demonstrators stormed the U.S. Capitol building to protest a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing where Azar was in attendance. Azar was grilled by members of Congress — including women’s health champion Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) — about the ORR’s unlawful policy and the immediate need to fire Lloyd. Despite this, Azar continued to defend Lloyd.
Throughout the day, our mobile billboard made its way around town, holding Scott Lloyd publicly accountable for his unconstitutional behavior.
Young immigrant women in ORR detention have the constitutional right to control their bodies regardless of their immigration status — and creeps like Lloyd should NOT be getting in the way of those freedoms.
The momentum is on our side, and we’re doing everything we can to put pressure on HHS Secretary Alex Azar to fire Scott Lloyd once and for all.
Join us.
