The crisis is here. Trump just announced Brett Kavanaugh as his pick for our next Supreme Court justice — which means our constitutional right to access abortion is at risk.  

Trump promised to appoint justices who would “automatically” overturn Roe v. Wade — and Brett Kavanaugh will tip the balance away from our constitutional right to access abortion and to be free from discrimination. If he’s confirmed, the rights we’ve spent decades fighting for could disappear.  

Things might look bleak right now, but we have power when we stand together.

• Remember that Trump vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act — and millions of Planned Parenthood supporters fought to save it, despite the odds.

• Remember that nearly 70 percent of Americans are in favor of protecting Roe v. Wade and our constitutional right to abortion — and millions of Planned Parenthood supporters are ready to fight like hell to preserve it.

Make no mistake: Trump’s power over the Supreme Court is alarming for not only abortion rights, but also for our ability to live free from discrimination in this country.

In this era of political extremism, the courts are often our last line of defense for our rights and freedoms. Already, Trump has been filling the nation’s courts with judges who are opposed to reproductive rights, immigrant rights, LGBTQ rights, voting rights, and more.

With Trump in the White House and anti-reproductive rights ideologues controlling Congress, our health and rights are at risk like never before.
