This election proves what we know to be true: A strong majority of voters support legal abortion, and do not want politicians involved in their medical decisions.
In several states voters chose to protect abortion rights on ballot measures. And although all the results of the 2022 midterm elections have yet to come in, it’s clear that protecting abortion access motivated people to vote.
Thank you for using your power.
To everyone who voted for reproductive health champions, voted to protect abortion rights in ballot measures, and volunteered to get out the vote: thank you.
While we wait for the final count in key races, we’re celebrating these wins.
Ballot Measure Wins
- California, Michigan and Vermont will create a constitutional right to abortion and other reproductive health care in their states.
- Kentucky voters stopped a ballot measure that would have prevented future efforts from creating the right to abortion in the state constitution.
Take Control 2022
- With “Take Control 2022” and “Toma el control 2022” campaigns, Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations led their largest electoral program ever.
- This year, Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations reached out to 3.1 million voters in person,by phone, text, and mail, and 7 million people with digital ads.

As false claims about our elections crop up, keep in mind that these claims often come from election deniers and conspiracy theorists who are trying to fuel white supremacist violence and attacks on democracy.

Abortion rights were a motivating factor in the 2022 election.
This election comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s June decision to let states ban abortion — which sparked rage among voters.
Almost immediately after the court’s decision, the voter enthusiasm gap was erased. Soon after, Kansas overwhelmingly rejected an anti-abortion amendment and new voter registration among women surged.
Americans support abortion access.
It’s no wonder that abortion changed the dynamics of this election. A strong majority of the American people support abortion access, oppose the Supreme Court’s decision, and believe the decision to get an abortion belongs to patients — not politicians. In recent polls, 81% of American adults said abortion was important to their midterm vote and 42% of voters considered the topic of abortion “extremely important,” right behind the economy and ahead of crime.
