With yet another lawmaker accused of inappropriate conduct, addressing and preventing sexual harassment sexual harassment at the Capitol remains a priority for Alaska lawmakers. Last week the Legislative Council Subcommittee on Sexual and Other Workplace Harassment met to review current policy and recommend changes. They released a draft policy that models existing policy in Oregon. A deadline to finalize the policy has not been set and the workgroup will continue to meet weekly.

A supplemental hearing on HB 25 was held Tuesday in the House Health and Social Services committee to lift up testimony from people who have experienced domestic violence and contraceptive coercion, both personally and through their work as victims’ advocates. The bill is expected to move to the House floor in the coming weeks.
