SUPPORT
Health insurance should cover a year's supply of birth control. It should cover all contraceptive methods, without out-of-pocket costs for patients.
Many people in Alaska can't pay for birth control or take monthly trips to a provider. Some don't have a car or live in rural areas. Others are young, low-income, or survivors of intimate partner violence. We'll continue to advocate for legislation that helps them access birth control.
Alaska has laws protecting against discrimination. But they don't protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people. That means people can be fired or denied housing and public services — just because of their gender identity, sexual orientation, or gender expression.
We'll continue to advocate for legislation that expands our state's civil rights protections. All people in Alaska should be safe from discrimination.
SUPPORT
Young people have the right to get information and skills to protect their health. This is especially true in Alaska, which has some of the worst STI and sexual assault rates in the country.
Sex ed should be medically accurate and age-appropriate. It should cover healthy relationships and consent. Over 90% of Alaskan voters agree!
Lawmakers need to listen to what Alaska people want and enact strong standards for sex ed. Alaska youth should get the education they need to lead healthy lives.
SUPPORT
We are seeing attack after attack on trans youth. We will oppose:
- bans on gender affirming health care for young people
- legislation designed to attack LGBTQ+ youth in schools
- legislation blocking trans girls from participating in sports and school community
These bills hurt trans youths' health and safety. They violate all students' privacy by forcing educators and coaches to identify and separate trans youth from their peers. We'll keep fighting to protect trans youth from these attacks.
