SEATTLE, WA — Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates announced its first slate of endorsements in Washington state’s 2022 primary elections today. This round of endorsements includes 37 candidates from across the state who have demonstrated a commitment to supporting reproductive health care, including access to abortion, birth control, and sex education.

“With the U.S. Supreme Court prepared to overturn the constitutional right to abortion this summer, it is more important than ever to elect strong champions for reproductive rights in Washington state,” said Courtney Normand, Washington State Director for Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates. “We are thrilled to endorse these reproductive rights advocates, and we know that they will spend every day in office fighting for access to high-quality, equitable health care for all Washingtonians. We look forward to supporting them in these races.”

Many of today’s endorsed candidates have served as Planned Parenthood allies in the Washington state legislature for years, fighting to protect and expand reproductive health care across the state. During the 2022 legislative session, Planned Parenthood-endorsed lawmakers successfully defeated seven bills attempting to ban or restrict abortion rights, such as a 15-week abortion ban. Although abortion will remain legal in Washington state regardless of the Supreme Court’s upcoming ruling in June, it is critical that Washingtonians elect strong abortion rights advocates to the state legislature to continue fighting against extremist proposals to limit reproductive health care in the state.

Through Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates’s endorsement process, the organization finds, educates, endorses, and supports candidates who will stand with Planned Parenthood, patients, and communities across Washington to work in pursuit of sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice for all people.
