Planned Parenthood Celebrates Major Victories Across Hawaii

HONOLULU - Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest & Hawaii (PPVNH) congratulates our endorsed candidates on their successful election campaigns. During the 2018 midterms, PPVNH implemented a strategic electoral program to activate voters and mobilize our robust supporter base.

Statement from Laurie Field, Hawaii State Director:

“The results of this midterm election are a tremendous victory for our patients, our supporters and the people of Hawaii. After a long history of leading on reproductive rights issues, tonight’s results show that Hawaii will continue to be at the forefront of defending the rights and freedoms of everyone, regardless of ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual orientation or immigration status.

“We congratulate Governor David Ige and Senator Mazie Hirono on their reelection. These two leaders have shown the courage to stand up to the federal government and put the people of Hawaii first in every decision they make. From rejecting Title X funds if the “gag rule” is implemented to holding Brett Kavanaugh accountable during his confirmation hearings, we have the utmost confidence in their values and we are excited to continue our work with them to lead Hawaii forward.

“Between separating immigrant families, racist travel bans, and taking away protections for sexual assault survivors, we know that this administration is determined to take away the rights and freedoms of Americans. But we will not stand for that here in Hawaii. We look forward to working with these leaders to fight back against these attacks and create a better future for our children.”

We congratulate our endorsed candidates on their successful campaigns, including Gov. Ige and Lieutenant Governor-Elect Dr. Josh Green. Along with our other endorsed candidates, we know these leaders will reflect the values of their constituents and defend them against increasing attacks from the Trump administration.

These candidates have stood strong for expanding access to health care, increasing sexual health education in the state, and protecting a person’s right to make decisions about their own body. We look forward to working with them to pass policies that reflect these and other important constituent values that continue to move Hawaii forward.
