Planned Parenthood Endorses Lauren McLean For Boise Mayor

BOISE – Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii (PPVNH) announced its endorsement of Boise City Council President Lauren McLean for Boise Mayor. Planned Parenthood Votes endorses McLean alongside Representative Melissa Wintrow because McLean will protect health care access in Idaho and is poised to take concrete action against government interference in personal health care decisions.


“Planned Parenthood Votes is proud to endorse Lauren McLean today for Boise Mayor,” said Mistie Tolman, Idaho State Director at PPVNH. “Council President​ McLean is a strong champion for reproductive health and rights, and we know she will fight right alongside us for affordable birth control, preventive health care, and reproductive rights. McLean understands that politicians should not interfere in the personal health decisions made between a provider and patient. Boise voters have an opportunity to vote for more of the same with Mayor David Bieter at a time when reproductive health and rights are in grave danger, or voters can elect the first female mayor of Boise who is committed to ensuring access to health care. ​Idaho legislators are hostile to reproductive health care, and committed to eliminating access, ​so we need a leader in Boise who will actively fight back when the health, freedoms, and rights of Idahoans are being stripped away.”
 

The administration and local Republican leadership in Idaho are targeting reproductive health care and providers like Planned Parenthood in an attempt to end people’s access to birth control, and dismantle reproductive rights. Abortion access is a “key issue for the 2020 elections.” A record-high 77 percent of Americans say they do not want to see Roe overturned, and there is no state in this country where banning abortion is popular. ​Cities are taking actions through zoning and land use to restrict abortion access, which is why we need strong city leadership to protect the full range of reproductive health care.

 PPVNH also endorsed Patrick Bageant and Meredith Stead for Boise City Council seats one and three respectively.
