City of Boise Makes History by Electing the First Woman to Serve as Mayor of Boise

BOISE – Tonight, the people of Boise made history by electing the first woman to serve as their mayor. Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii (PPVNH) congratulates Lauren McLean on her win. Boise residents elected new leadership to represent them, and McLean is an unwavering champion for reproductive health care. McLean is committed to protecting reproductive rights, and acting against government interference in personal health care decisions.

“Tonight is historic. Lauren McLean is the kind of fierce champion we need in Idaho, especially now when the stakes couldn’t be higher for reproductive health care,” said Mistie Tolman, Idaho State Director at PPVNH. “Planned Parenthood endorsed McLean because she is a strong champion for reproductive health and rights, and we know she will fight right alongside us for affordable birth control, preventive health care, and health care access. We are living in a time where the Trump administration, and state elected officials are hellbent on attacking reproductive rights, which is why we are committed to supporting leaders who will expand our pro-reproductive rights majority.”

Local city and county elected officials can make all the difference in reproductive health care access, especially in Idaho where local Republican leadership is targeting reproductive health care and providers like Planned Parenthood in an attempt to end people’s access to birth control, and dismantle reproductive rights. These policies are deeply unpopular. A record-high 77 percent of Americans say they do not want to see Roe overturned, and there is no state in this country where banning abortion is popular.
