Today, Speaker Ryan and President Trump announced they will no longer call for a vote on the Affordable Care Act repeal bill.
Statement from Elaine Rose, CEO of Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii:
“Republican leadership and the White House tried forcing through the worst legislation for women in a generation. They were on a crusade to strip health care from 24 million people, and block women from getting care at Planned Parenthood health centers. However, women and men across the country sent a clear message: Don’t mess with our health care.
“Over the last few months, we witnessed a never-before-seen outpouring of organizing, activism, and support. People marched, showed up at town hall meetings across America, flooded the Congressional switchboard with calls, organized online, stood up for access to health care. The unprecedented grassroots energy from Planned Parenthood supporters and people all across this country helped stop this bill from even leaving the House.
“We know this is the beginning, not the end. People organized and spoke out, and because of them, thousands of people will be able to get care at Planned Parenthood health centers across our region.
“We know politicians won’t stop attacking women’s health and Planned Parenthood, despite the clear fact that 75% of Americans support Planned Parenthood. Each time they try, we will be back in full force. The voices of millions of women and men across this country are loud enough to drown them out.”
