ANCHORAGE — Today, Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii (PPVNH) issued the following statement after the announcement from Governor Walker on the appointment of Tom Braund to fill the vacancy for Senate District E:

Statement from Jessica Cler, Alaska Public Affairs Manager at PPVNH:

“To start out, this is a man who has compared women to dogs. It is unacceptable that someone with a history of disparaging women and promoting myths and false information about reproductive health care has been nominated by Governor Walker to fill Senator Mike Dunleavy’s seat. When appointed to a government position, you have an obligation to provide the public with accurate and factual information. Tom Braund has disqualified himself from public office through his years of peddling paranoid conspiracy theories, damaging falsehoods, and offensive positions, which is why we do not think he is qualified to be senator. This also calls into question Governor Walker’s judgement and commitment to health care for all people in Alaska. ”
