Planned Parenthood Action Fund Launches National Campaign Revoking Licenses of Gynoticians on the Heels of House Passage National 20 Week Abortion Ban

On the heels of House passage of a dangerous and unconstitutional bill that would ban abortion nationwide at 20 weeks, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund has launched a campaign revoking the licenses of “Gynoticians” across the country. A new word coined by the Action Fund in response to the unprecedented number of attacks on women’s health in Congress and in state legislatures across the country, a Gynotician is a politician who thinks he or she is more qualified than women and their doctors to make women’s health care decisions. The Action Fund is the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Planned Parenthood: House Vote Part of Coordinated Effort to End Access to Safe and Legal Abortion

Planned Parenthood Action Fund denounced today’s House passage of dangerous and unconstitutional legislation that would ban abortion at 20 weeks nationwide — interfering in a woman’s ability to make personal decisions about her pregnancy in consultation with her doctor. The bill addresses a very rare procedure; nearly 99 percent of all abortions occur before 21 weeks’ gestation, but when it does happen it is often in heartbreaking and tragic situations, such as severe fetal abnormalities. Tonight’s vote comes as part of an unprecedented series of attacks on women’s access to safe and legal abortion at the state and federal level.

“The stupidity is simply staggering”

“The stupidity is simply staggering.” That’s a direct quote from Republican Representative Charlie Dent (R-PA) in reference to the decision of his party’s leadership to bring an unconstitutional bill that would ban abortion nationwide at 20-weeks up for a vote next week. “I’ll be very frank: I discouraged our leadership from bringing this to a vote on the floor,” he told CQ-Roll Call. “Clearly the economy is on everyone’s minds, we’re seeing very stagnant job numbers, confidence in the institution of government is eroding and now we’re going to have a debate on rape and abortion.”

Planned Parenthood: Victory in Arkansas Is a Message to All States that Cutting Women Off from Planned Parenthood Is Too Extreme for Even the Most Hostile States to Women’s Health

Marking a victory for Planned Parenthood’s patients, and the supporters in Arkansas who organized in opposition to anti-women’s health bills, the state legislature ended its session today without passing one of the broadest measures ever considered that would have blocked public health funds from Planned Parenthood and other health care providers who provide or even refer patients for safe and legal abortions.
