Welcome to “The Quickie” — Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s daily tipsheet on the top health care & reproductive rights stories of the day. You can read “The Quickie'' online here.

In today’s Quickie: Abortion advocates call on the Michigan House to advance the Reproductive Health Act and the House can’t govern themselves, but want to govern our bodies.

ABORTION ACCESS ADVOCATES IN MICHIGAN CALL FOR PASSAGE OF THE FULL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH ACT AS STATE SENATE PASSES COMPLETE BILL: Last night, as the Michigan Senate voted to advance the Reproductive Health Act, a large group of abortion advocates - including Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan and 30 other organizations - called on the Michigan House to do the same, after members of the House have threatened to remove key barriers to access. The advocates’ joint statement reads in part:

“We are incensed and saddened that some members of the House are considering dismantling the RHA; leaving out critical components of this legislation will result in real harm to the health of real people across the state. This also is not in line with what Michiganders want from their lawmakers, and we will continue to push to ensure that the RHA is passed in full. We call on all members of the Michigan House of Representatives to reflect the will of their constituents and pass the RHA in full.”

CAN’T GOVERN THEMSELVES, BUT WANT TO GOVERN OUR BODIES: This morning, Jim Jordan lost yet another ballot for speaker. The chaotic House Republicans continue to fail at unifying their party. They can’t govern. But ironically, they still want to govern our bodies and control our freedoms. The countdown towards a government shutdown is quickly approaching yet the GOP wants to use the appropriations process to sneak in anti-abortion and anti-sexual and reproductive health care provisions. People don’t want politicians involved in their personal health care decisions. They want Congress to function — something House Republicans clearly can’t manage.
