AS SUPREME COURT TAKES MIFEPRISTONE CASE, PPAF PRESIDENT REFLECTS ON ABORTION ACCESS NATIONWIDE: Yesterday, after the Supreme Court announced it would hear oral arguments in the case regarding the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, Planned Parenthood Action Fund President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson joined Alicia Menendez on MSNBC to discuss the latest developments in abortion access. Alexis explained that politicians and courts have all too frequently played a role in limiting our rights and ability to make our own medical decisions — as underscored in Kate Cox’s case in Texas and again possible as the Supreme Court decides the fate of mifepristone. Alexis also discussed the widespread support seen for the Florida ballot initiative across the political spectrum.

SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE CONSIDERS NICOLE BERNER’S HISTORIC NOMINATION, UNDERSCORING PRESIDENT BIDEN’S FOCUS ON TAPPING DIVERSE NOMINEES: Yesterday, former Planned Parenthood litigator Nicole Berner appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee for her confirmation hearing to be a judge on the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was introduced by her Maryland senators, Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and the hearing highlighted her inspiring career of fighting for civil rights and worker’s rights.
Nicole Berner would be the first openly LGBTQ+ person on the Fourth Circuit. Her nomination comes as President Biden continues his focus of appointing diverse candidates to the federal judiciary, as Pew Research details.
