In today’s Quickie: Encouraging corporations to protect human rights and reproductive rights advocates condemn Kari Lake’s senate bid.

CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS URGE CORPORATIONS TO STEP UP IN PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS: At the Fast Company Innovation Festival last month, leaders from several human rights organizations – including voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and abortion rights – gathered to share their thoughts on why corporations should be stepping up and using their influence to fight back against these issues.

Brianna Twofoot, national organizing director of Planned Parenthood Federation of America spoke at the event and shared her thoughts on how corporations can take steps in the right direction, starting with examining their own policies and how they can make things better for their employees. “And then at every opportunity using your platform, your voice, your credibility to speak out. REPRO RIGHTS ADVOCATES BLAST KARI LAKE’S SENATE BID: Last week, anti-abortion activist and failed 2022 gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake entered the race for the U.S. Senate seat in Arizona. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona (PPAAZ) quickly came out against her candidacy reminding voters that she is a conspiracy theorist who will say anything to get elected. As PPAAZ’s Kelley Dupps told the AZ Mirror, “Kari Lake continues to use her platform to spread disinformation and conspiracy theories, following the playbook of other anti-abortion politicians in Arizona. For years, extremists in our state have tried to manipulate the truth about abortion and essential health care, but Arizonans won’t fall for these blatant lies.” Kari Lake has a dangerous and unpopular record on abortion and supports Arizona’s current 15-week ban. Recent polling shows that 80% of Arizonans want abortion to remain legal.
