PLANNED PARENTHOOD ARIZONA CALLS FOR BIASED JUDGE’S RECUSAL ON ABORTION CASE: Yesterday, and in light of recent reporting about state Supreme Court Justice William Montgomery’s previous prejudicial statements about Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ), PPAZ filed a motion for recusal requesting that Justice Montgomery recuse from Planned Parenthood Arizona v. Mayes, PPAZ’s challenge to the state’s 1864 abortion ban. In the motion, PPAZ argues that under the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct, Justice Montgomery should recuse himself from the case based on his past social media posts and participation at an anti-abortion rally at PPAZ’s headquarters in 2015. Kelley Dupps, Director of Public Policy & Government Relations at Planned Parenthood Arizona, said in response:
"Planned Parenthood Arizona believes that all litigants in Arizona are entitled to have their cases heard by judges who are not biased against them, and that includes Planned Parenthood Arizona. After carefully evaluating the recent reporting showing Justice Montgomery’s bias against Planned Parenthood Arizona as an organization, we believe recusal is necessary in our case.”

PLANNED PARENTHOOD OF WISCONSIN NOW PROVIDING PrEP AND PEP: This week, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin started offering two drugs that help limit HIV exposure, PrEP and PEP. PrEP is a preventative medication taken to lower the risk of contracting HIV if exposed and PEP is taken after possible exposure to lower the risk of getting HIV. Patients in Wisconsin will be able to get either medication in person at Planned Parenthood health centers or via telehealth.
“Planned Parenthood is focused on meeting the needs of our patients across Wisconsin, and providing essential medications to prevent HIV infection is an essential piece of providing the care our communities need,” Amy Doczy, vice president of Patient Services at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Confidential, high-quality, affordable health care is our top priority, and we look forward to welcoming all individuals who need care regardless of their insurance or immigration status, gender and sexual identity.”
This decision is part of PPWI’s expansion of services, including recently resuming abortion care at their health centers as well as vasectomies and gender affirming care.
