PLANNED PARENTHOOD CELEBRATES SENATE PASSING RESPECT FOR MARRIAGE ACT: Last night, Planned Parenthood Action Fund celebrated the U.S. Senate passing the Respect for Marriage Act, which guarantees federal rights, benefits, and protections for same-sex and interracial marriages. TODAY: PLANNED PARENTHOOD ARIZONA ARGUES IN COURT OF APPEALS ON 1864 NEAR TOTAL ABORTION BAN: Today, the Arizona Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in Planned Parenthood Arizona’s (PPAZ) case against Attorney General Bronvich's efforts to allow enforcement of the state’s 1864 near-total abortion ban. Today’s hearing comes nearly two months after the Court of Appeals halted a state superior court’s September order that allowed the near-total ban on abortion to take effect for several weeks. Since Brnovich first filed his request to lift the injunction on the near-total ban, PPAZ has been asking the court to clarify that the Civil War-era ban must be harmonized with the nearly five decades of law governing abortion that are on the books in the state. Today’s oral arguments are the latest step in the fight to protect abortion access in Arizona.
