Despite the wave of unprecedented attacks Planned Parenthood has withstood over the last year, its affiliates continue to provide sexual and reproductive health care, education, and information to millions of women, men, and young people worldwide. Recently, we have been flooded with stories from those who turned to Planned Parenthood health centers as their trusted provider of health care and education when they felt they had nowhere else to go. So, we are lifting up the strong voices of real people, patients and providers, staff and volunteers, showcasing the importance of access to sexual and reproductive health care. These are just five of the 12 amazing videos in the new, ongoing series “Stories of Care. No Matter What.”
“I can empathize with the patients a lot more having been through it myself.” Dr. Sierra Washington is the Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. She is providing patients the same compassionate care she received when she was a patient herself.
“When Planned Parenthood came to El Centro, it meant everything.” 22-year-old Ariana grew up in the Latino community of the Imperial Valley, where sex and contraception were not talked about. A new Planned Parenthood health center helped change that.
“They saw me as a human being, not just as another patient walking in.” 25-year-old JC is a high school cheer coach. Visiting a Planned Parenthood health center gave him the courage to openly identify his sexuality for the first time.
“It’s a safe place — a place where they know they will not be judged.” Vivian serves Planned Parenthood on the southern border of California, where the county has a shortage of providers.
“I’m so glad that I went to Planned Parenthood that day.” When Adeline was faced with an unplanned pregnancy, Planned Parenthood gave her the time and space she needed to think about her options.
These powerful stories matter, because they get at the heart of what Planned Parenthood means for so many: care, no matter what. We will not let anti-abortion extremists use fraud and deception to shut down the health centers that one in five American women has relied on. Planned Parenthood has been here for the communities we serve with health care and education for nearly 100 years — and we’re looking forward to our second century.
State by state, extreme lawmakers are attacking women.
Our health, our rights, our privacy, and our lives are at stake.
The attacks have gone too far.
Tell them to back off.
Add your name to our open letter now and tell extremists everywhere:
We won’t be punished – not now, not ever.
