Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Alexis McGill Johnson Launches Campaign Tour to Support Abortion Access Champions in Midterms
For Immediate Release: Sept. 20, 2022
Upcoming state visits include Georgia, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Nevada
WASHINGTON — As the midterm election nears and is less than 50 days out, Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Alexis McGill Johnson announced her plans to join reproductive rights champions on the campaign trail over the coming weeks. Ahead of crucial midterm elections in Georgia, Wisconsin, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, and elsewhere, McGill Johnson will highlight how the fight for abortion access is at stake.
This announcement comes on the heels of a campaign stop in Pennsylvania where McGill Johnson joined John Fetterman in his bid for the U.S. Senate, along with thousands of supporters, including those from Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates.
Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund:
“Last week, politicians in Congress proposed a nationwide abortion ban and reminded us of exactly what they’re focused on: stripping their own constituents of the ability to make decisions about their bodies and lives. We know voters won’t stand for that, and this November, they’ll turn out for reproductive health champions because abortion rights and freedoms are on the ballot. That’s why I’ll be traveling to states across the country to remind voters of exactly what the fight ahead looks like — and the urgency of electing candidates that support and will protect abortion rights. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is channeling this momentum and advocating for abortion access up and down the ballot.”
More details about specific events will be released closer to the event dates. This election cycle, Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations launched Take Control, their largest ever electoral program, which is set to invest $50 million to elect abortion rights champions up and down the ballot, initially in nine critical states: Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Minnesota, Arizona, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
