As 2013 comes to a close, it’s a time to reflect on the past year.

We write these pieces every year, and we got to thinking…wouldn’t it be more fun, in service of remembering the good, the bad, and the simply absurd, if we made them awards?

And here we are: introducing the Ladies’ Choice Awards. In recognition of some of the most memorable moments in women’s health and feminist culture from 2013, we’ll be compiling the best quotes, victories, feminist wins — and of course, also providing some dishonorable mentions.

Will a Texas senator’s perfectly pointed inquiry on the senate floor edge out State Representative Kathy Hawken’s vocal opposition to a bad bill in North Dakota? Will Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn defy the odds as the first female Gynotician of the Year?
